Kindergarten (KG 1-3)

The education of our youngest learners is vitally important; it lays the foundation for all The Kindergarten (KG) department is a leader in early years education and has acquired a reputation for excellence. Our practice is based on learning the very best of other practices from around the world. The curriculum is designed to help our children develop vital skills needed to become healthy and successful young learners.

Our curriculum is based on the international “Early Years Foundation Stage” approach that mainly focus on developing the following:

  • Personal, social and emotional development
  • Communication, Language and Literacy
  • Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy
  • Knowledge and understanding of the world
  • Physical development
  • Creative development
  • Mathematical development
  • *Arabic studies
  • *Islamic Studies including Quran

In HIS, in each KG classroom there is a teaching assistant who is directed by the teacher. In all of their learning experiences, children use equipment to acquire and develop skills and knowledge that they can later apply to successfully solve problems. The Kindergarten children are taught in mixed gender classes.

The curriculum is delivered in English and students are encouraged to use English throughout their time at the school:

Primary School (G1 to G6)

Grade 1-3 students are taught in the same building as KG students, but in different sections so that teachers can closely track and report upon learning and development. The classes are structured on the same home base model used in KG so that each student can be closely tracked and developed for every grade.This structure provides a smooth transition from KG to Primary School and enables the children to continue their development of key skills by our qualified teachers in the six key areas:

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  • Communication, Language and Literacy
  • Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy
  • Knowledge and Understanding of the World
  • Physical Development
  • Creative Development

Grade 4 -6 The transition from home-based to subject-based teaching has been carefully planned so that your child will settle into the next phase of their learning. Boys and girls start learning separate subjects by subject-specific specialists and will have different teachers for each subject. This will enable us to deliver the highest possible standards to optimize development and learning.

The Primary School curriculum comprises:

  • English
  • Maths
  • Science
  • *Islamic Studies including Quran
  • *Arabic
  • Physical Education (PE)
  • Information & Communication Technology (ICT)
  • Arts
  • Social studies
  • French

Checkpoint examinations will be available for students in Grade 6 to enable the school to monitor, review and evaluate the academic progress of each individual student in order to enable them to achieve their full potential.

The curriculum is delivered in English and students are encouraged to use English throughout their time at the school.

Secondary School (G7 to G9)

In HIS, boys and girls are taught in separate buildings in secondary school. The program is designed to help students improve key skills while progressing to more specialized subject learning. However, there will be a larger focus on gaining subject-specific knowledge and abilities. Our students will be able to proceed from Science to Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. Students are examined on a regular basis and given detailed feedback to help them enhance their learning in each topic. In Grade 8, students start learning the specific knowledge and abilities they will need for their IGCSE courses.

*Abiding by the rules of the Ministry of Education, the school delivers these lessons in  Arabic language.
